OM-2832

One Prototype + 24 Production versions

The first instrument shown on this page is the prototype for the subsequent 24 production examples of the non-cutaway OM-2832 model. This guitar was purchased directly from C.F. Martin & Co in Nazareth and is still in the posession of the original owner. The serial number is only five digits apart from the other known prototype Shenandoah which was supposedly sent to the 1992 NAMM show for evaluation, the OMC-2832 shown elsewhere in the Rare Birds section. In both cases, Martin customer service has specifically confirmed that each was in fact a prototype and is listed as such in their records. This point is strongly supported by the serial numbers of two known Production OM-2832’s, both of which are over 6000 digits later than these first two. Interestingly enough, although the records at Martin show all 25 known examples of the non-cutaway OM’s as model number OM-2832B, the actual stamp on the neck block shows a slightly different layout, as shown below

The only obvious difference between this instrument and the Production versions is the tuning machines, which were gold with light cream color buttons on the Prototype and chrome with faux-pearl buttons on the Production examples. They are otherwise identical
